There are several reasons why your garage door is creating noise, but the most typical is age. After 1993, garage door openers include an infrared safety eye system that reverses the garage door if something is in the path of the door shutting. A broom handle or spider web may occasionally obstruct the "light beam." It is possible for the sensors to become misaligned, causing the door to reverse instantly. In certain circumstances, if they are only slightly out of alignment, the door may only go a short distance before reversing. Examine the sensors for obstructions or whether the illuminated indicators on the transmitting and receiving eyes are both lit. If one is out or blinking, they may need to be realigned.

A garage door won't open most of the time because a balancing mechanism, such as a damaged extension or torsion spring, isn't working. If an electric opener is present and no noise is heard when the door is engaged, disengage the opener by pulling the emergency release and manually lifting the door. If the door moves, the issue is most likely the opener. Check to see whether there is electricity to the outlet feeding the opener; if so, a service call by a certified professional is required. If the balancing mechanism fails, it should be repaired by a competent door technician.

First, determine whether you have a wall console (push button) with a vacation or lock button. If that function has been triggered, your lit push button will most likely be flashing. Hold down the vacation or lock button for around five seconds before releasing. If that was the issue, the transmitter should now function properly. If the problem persists, try a new battery. Take care not to upset any coding switches that may be present. If the problem persists, check to ensure if the coding switches on the transmitter match the switches on the power unit hanging from the ceiling.
